Matt Wilce is originally from the UK, has spent most of his adult life in Japan and has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and North America.
Specializing in Japanese entertainment and culture, Matt was editor in chief of Eye-Ai magazine and editor of Metropolis magazine, Japan’s largest English publication. Although he now works as Director of Communications for The American School in Japan, Matt continues to write about Japan for various publications. His work includes stories for People Magazine, The Rochester Review, Ikebana International, Japan Times Shukan, POL Oxygen and JapanInc magazine.
He has also been quoted as a source on Japanese culture in Details magazine and the Sydney Morning Herald.
An avid traveler, Matt has contributed to the books Fodor’s Guide to Japan, Fodor’s Guide to Tokyo and started his writing career with a box story in the first edition of the Time Out Guide to Tokyo. His first piece of fiction to be published was a short story in the anthology Foreign Encounters. His joke books for kids include Christmas Crackers and Classroom Clangers.
Although he once guest starred in a Japanese crime show, Matt prefers to be the other side of the camera. He wrote, directed and produced a TV commercial for Eye-Ai magazine and later became involved in the production of a number of film projects.
Matt’s areas of interest are food, travel, social media, the film industry, history, contemporary art and popular culture.
